Chelsea reject Barcelona transfer deal after striking Timo Werner agreement
Barcelona have tried to tempt Chelsea into signing Philippe Coutinho this summer but the Blues have rejected approach as they reportedly want to spend that money on Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz.
The former Liverpool midfielder has flopped since moving to the Nou Camp in January 2018, he has spent this season on loan to Bayern Munich but they will not make his move permanent and a host of Premier League sides have been offered the 27-year-old as Barcelona want him off their wage bill.
ESPN claim Chelsea do not feel Coutinho would be worth the money as a deal could cost in excess of £80million, More so, Barcelona would also demand a £9m fee and Coutinho’s wages of £250,000-a-week to be covered to facilitate a loan.
Frank Lampard would instead prefer his side to move for Leverkusen’s 20-year-old winger Havertz who is seven years younger than Coutinho and will also cost less at around £70m.
Meanwhile, Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian has recently admitted his client wants to return to the UK.
“He has a desire to come back to the Premier League at some point,” Joorabchian told Sky Sports .
“It may not happen this year, it may happen this year but we don’t know. We really have not discussed anything for now.”
However, he rubbished suggestions that Barcelona were holding out for an enormous fee.
“I’ve never heard those figures, we’ve never discussed numbers, none of those figures have ever been discussed,” Joorabchian added.
Chelsea handed major Ben Chilwell transfer boost
Chelsea have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Leicester star Ben Chilwell after it emerged the Foxes are willing to sell the left-back. The Blues have already signed Ajax playmaker Hakim Ziyech, while Timo Werner of RB Leipzig has also agreed to head to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are also hoping to land Chilwell as Frank Lampard looks to bolster his squad this summer and according to The Guardian, Leicester are willing to sell the England international in a boost to Lampard’s transfer plans.
However, the Foxes will not let the 23-year-old go cheap, It’s claimed Leicester could demand up to £80m for the left-back this summer.
Despite Chelsea going all out for Chilwell, Lampard has been urged to focus his attention elsewhere.
