Werner hail Lampard, says he was the main reason behind move
Frank Lampard was the deciding factor behind Timo Werner’s move to Chelsea, the German has revealed.
The 24-year-old, who signed in a £54million move back in June, has this week joined his Chelsea team-mates in training, and has revealed a particular conversation with Lampard that sealed his decision to join.
“He [Lampard] was the main point; we talked a lot about things like system, like how he wants to play and sees me playing, and how the system fits to me,” Werner told Chelsea’s official website.
“He is a really nice guy who not only told me what he wants from me as a player because he wants to help me as a guy. He knows me now a little bit better and it fits very good between us and now I am happy to be here.
“When you have a decision to go from your old club and you come to a big club like this, it was for me a dream which came true because Chelsea is a very big club.
“I know of the players before when they won the Champions League with [Didier] Drogba, with my new manager Frank Lampard, Petr Cech as the technical advisor, it is like a little dream for me but I want to become, not a same player like them, but I want to be part of a new era here so I will play to try to give my best.”
Willian to decide Chelsea future after FA Cup final
Willian’s agent Kia Joorabchian says the Brazilian will make a decision on his future after Saturday’s FA Cup Final.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at Chelsea at the end of the season and, Standard Sport understands, has offers from both Chelsea and their Wembley opponents, Arsenal.
Frank Lampard wants Willian to stay at Stamford Bridge but the midfielder wants a three-year deal and Chelsea have a policy of not offering long-term extensions to players aged over 30
Arsenal want to sign Willian on a free transfer and Joorabchian, who has close links with the Gunners, says he also has offers from the MLS and Europe.
Joorabchian told talkSPORT: “He has always said he wanted to finish the season off at Chelsea. Then the day after the season is finished he will make his decision.
“He has two concrete offers from Premier League clubs in the table. He has had a MLS offer and two other offers in Europe. So Willian is in a great position. He is going to make his decision after the FA Cup.
“Physically he is in a great condition. He is playing at the top of his game at Chelsea and is always going to give you eight to 10 out of 10 in every game he plays. He has never had too many injury issues so there is no reason why he cannot play for another four or five years.
Willian has offers from two Premier League clubs
Agent Kia Joorabchian has revealed that Chelsea winger Willian has received two offers from clubs in the Premier League.
Despite suggestions that the Brazilian and Blues officials had made a breakthrough in negotiations over a new deal, Joorabchian has hinted that no further progress has been made.
Instead, the playmaker’s representative has suggested that the 31-year-old, who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, could move to another team in England’s top flight.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Joorabchian said: “I don’t think he’s done a U-turn or any kind of turn. He’s always been very much the same mode.
“We had big offers – one from MLS which required him to move on July 1 – but he’s always wanted to finish the season at Chelsea and the day after the season has finished he would decide.
“He has two concrete offers from Premier League clubs on the table, an offer from an MLS club, and two other offers from Europe. He is going to make his decision after the last game of the season.”
Willian, who has frequently reiterated that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge, could potentially be left out of Chelsea’s squad for Saturday’s FA Cup final against Arsenal.
