Chelsea told to sign Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico instead of Chiwell.
Chelsea are also hoping to land Chilwell as Frank Lampard looks to bolster his squad this summer and according to The Guardian, Leicester are willing to sell the England international in a boost to Lampard’s transfer plans.
Ex-West Ham midfielder Don Hutchison says the Blues should sign Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico instead. he added that:
“Tagliafico all day long,” Hutchison said on ESPN FC.
“We talk about transfer fees, the Chilwell transfer fee in the U.K., they’re saying over £75m-£80m which I think is astronomical.
“I look around Europe and I see loads of left-backs that are really good, if not better. I see [Marvin] Plattenhardt, I see Philipp Max.’
“I think Tagliafico is the best one out there at Ajax, I think he’s terrific and I don’t think he will cost anywhere near £80m, half the money I would imagine.
“So he would get my pick, the Argentinian.”
Former Blues midfielder Craig Burley, however, reckons Chilwell could turn Chelsea into title contenders.
“The other signing we talked about there, Ben Chilwell, I really like him, really, really like him,” Burley added.
“I looked at clubs in England that might need a left-back, I thought Man City, who have got full-backs but have had a problem in that area, might go for him.
“If Chelsea can get Ben Chilwell, that would be a huge signing as well because he’s got unbelievable pace to get up and down that wing. When Lampard likes to play [Marcos] Alonso, it’s in a back three.
“He doesn’t like him as a full-back. He has to play [Cesar] Azpilicueta there but he’s a right footer.
“Ben Chilwell will give them great balance down that left-hand side and if he can get those two signings, on top of all those other players we’ve mentioned, Chelsea will be in the mix next season. There’s not a doubt about it for me.”
Juventus ‘ready to offer Chelsea Douglas Costa in straight swap deal for Jorginho’
Juventus are preparing to offer Chelsea a straight swap deal for Jorginho which would see Douglas Costa head to Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard has strengthened his side significantly with the signing of Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech, who is expected to be joined shortly by RB Leipzig ace Timo Werner at the club.
But Chelsea’s one in, one out policy this summer is said to have left midfield duo Jorginho and N’Golo Kante facing uncertain futures.
A report from Italian outlet Sport Mediaset reiterates that Juve boss Maurizio Sarri is keen to bring Jorginho back to Italy, having signed him as Chelsea boss in 2018.
Maurizio Sarri is a huge admirer of Jorginho, having worked with him at Napoli and Chelsea and with Miralem Pjanic set to leave this summer amid interest from Barcelona, Jorginho has been earmarked as a perfect replacement.
Sarri has lost faith with Pjanic and wants a player who is better suited to his style of play, the Serie A giants are reportedly willing to allow Costa, 29, to head to west London after just six league starts in a straight swap deal.
But it seems likely that the Blues would prefer a fee rather than to sign the Brazilian winger, having paid £57m to sign Jorginho from Napoli.
Chelsea are said to value Jorginho in the region of £45million but Juventus are exploring the possibility of exchanging players.
They believe Brazilian winger Costa is worth just as much but have Alex Sandro on standby if Chelsea reject their offer.
